Just a warning to all, I have been quite busy lately (more so than usual) vetting through many new accounts and must say 90% have been banned as Spam. I'm sure I may have missed some too.
Along the same, I've had quite a few PM's from our members here mentioning potential fraudulent attempts against them.
I'm asking that our community here be very vigilant with accepting offers and communication from members that have just joined.
Many of the incidents, both in the past and even recently, despite the warnings, have occurred by entertaining offers from these new joins.
It is a rare anomaly that a new join inquiring about an item in the Classified forum is legitimate.
I ask that if such an inquiry comes into your inbox, or within a thread that you click the "Report" icon to alert the Moderators and Admins.
We have the tools and search features to vet through the accounts.
Never accept to be lead off this forum for communication. Whether through text or email.
Also, if it sounds too good to be true, in this day and age, I can say 99.99995% that it is a scam.
Check the member's status by hovering over or by clicking their avatar. Check the join date. Sometimes these potential scams are within hours of joining. Check the post count, if it's "0", be wary. This is why posting to this forum and developing a reputation here has it's advantages.
Lately we have seen these new joins trying to mimic our members here by using the same username, but adding a period (.) or a number after the username, hoping to mask their identity. Be sure to check these details.
Never, ever give out, or post your mobile number!! Even in word form. Some of these scammers can spell ... there is a human factor behind many of these users, they are not just "BOTS" anymore.
Please be vigilant and use the "Report" feature.
Mike
