Following the normal cycle Sage uses, it was time to update the TCR design. The rod which will replace it is called the TCX.

 

I hope the TCX is faster than the TCR, which was waaaayyyyyy too slow.

 

hmmm... I recollect some years ago folks disliking the Fly Logic 1307 because it was too whippy ... but perhaps with a different frame of reference it would be hailed as an amazing skagit rod, ahead of its time. Tastes change, and there's no accounting for it.

what confuses me is the acronym:

TCR - Technical Casting Rod

TCX - Technical Casting ... Xylophone?

 

Technical Casting Xtreme perhaps!

The new TCX in 14 foot and 15 foot versions appears to be on sale in the UK: it is in the latest Sportfish printed catalogue and on their website, so presumably it is available. Last time I looked the TCR was still on the Sage website, and shops still seem to have rods available. No news yet on any replacement for the 12-3 and 12-9 TCRs.

 

I cast a proto 908 TCX last year...still very fast but even lighter than the same TCR.
