this would be May/June plan C for next year (2021) depending on travel restrictions (i'm in Ontario)

how feasible is it to travel in an RV and fish the small rivers and streams i.e. Wawa to Thunder Bay
the RV is 24', good clearance, but it is not a 4WD

don't need any hookups, just a place to park close to the fishin
there are parks & a few RV parks, but few & far between

we'll be fly fishing, so brookies, browns, steelhead etc - not particular, just want to enjoy the landscapes & fish
hope to have a canoe pakboat to fit in the RV by then - will that help with access?

really looking for streams/rivers that offer good access/parking for the RV

This is one of my favorite areas to fish and the wild mostly undeveloped of Superior’s shores are spectacular. I usually hike in to a river and camp but an RV would certainly be more comfortable, especially during the frequent spring all day rains. One area to concentrate on is the Nippigon River and Red Bay. You can wade this area but a boat provides access to the Slate Islands in Lake Superior for Coasters and Lakers and the Upper Nippigon River and its Island channels for brook trout. A guided trip here would be a great idea to learn the water which can be hazardous to navigate.

I have looked into this type of thing a little bit. There are a few websites out there that will list parking spots for RV's and such. Some have services, some are free and some are just crown land, which if you are a Canadian citizen are free to use up to a time period then you must move. Non-citizens have a small fee. There are also list of water and dump station if you use crown land. Again, some are free, some not. It's definitely doable. You just need to line up spots with the area you want to fish/visit.

I will try and find the list for you. I did have it around here somewhere.

Dan

Edit: Found some info for you to do it free or on the cheap. Rather than hot linking I will message you with a list. If anybody else wants it let me know.

I did a similar trip, but only as far west as Wawa. Northern Ontario, that area in particular, is amongst my most favourite anywhere, and I've travelled quite a bit...

We stayed at a local bear camp, but as mentioned, mostly all crown land, and there shouldn't be a problem with a RV--in fact, we saw several, and I always do when I go up that way.

Between the Soo and Wawa at least, you'll certainly want to concentrate on the mouths and first few hundred yards of rive for steelhead and coasters. Which is also where you'll find the easiest parking access for your RV.

thanks for all the info
i guess what i really need are about a 1/2 dozen guaranteed spots for parking & fishing
once i have those plotted out i can fill the rest
anyone want to give up some of their favourite spots?

i'm not looking for their favourite, favourite spots, just spots where i can park the RV and fish close by
it really helps to know that you have a spot rather than driving to check things out
it's possible to run out of daylight w/o finding a good spot to park & that isn't fun

I know the area between TBay and Marathon. Just pull over next to the bridge and get fishing. Might get a bit loud in the evening with trucks, so bring ear plugs. The popular rivers with have larger parking areas. Rainbow Falls Prov Park has a nice developed camping area, or at least it used to. You can alway follow a forest road and camp in Crown Land but it might be tight in that RV. Plus, those things aren't meant to drive on a washboard road for any distance. Hope CA opens soon but I doubt it. I've seen a lot of country and the NS is among the best.
