What is an advantage of this heads compare to Airflo Sandi compact or Guideline 3D ?
Airflo floater cast/fish beautifully and cover 270 to 540 gr range every 30 gr.

I like all the lines you've mentioned.
The SGS scandi heads turn over slightly more smoothly than the Airflo compact scandis, but also don't turn over bigger flies quite as effortlessly, in a classic physics sort of way. Both of their forward tapers are longer than the PTs', without compromise in either power or distance.

What sets the SGS apart is that you can tell Bob/Steve exactly what rod you're using, what sort of application you plan for it, and they'll create a line that exactly matches both your rod's power profile and your casting style. That's really unique!

Thanks for info.

Unlike GL PT's, the new 3D have triangle taper and lines like :

Floater/Hover/ Intermediate or Hover/Interm/S3 or Int-S2-S4 are really great.

Lifting Int-S2-S4 form the water is very easy.

These 3D heads look interesting, but takes a good investment to get an assortment. Also, wondering how much of an improvement this line is over the PT's. Is the advantage castablity or do they really fish better than the appropriate PT or DDC with appropriate tip? The new S2 DDC head gives one many more options as well.
salmo, have you used these 3D heads enough yet to see much difference?

Not quite/precisely on target...but I would certainly recommend you look at Steve's Skandit heads (if this particular rod might see any tip work). I've been fishing one all winter (with the 7 ft floating tip removed) on a 7 wt and it is pure butter! Unbelieveably good. Turns over all tips (including 13 ft of Z15, equal to T14) and is flat out terrific. With the 7 ft floating tip on, I have a made-to-fit scandi.

I don't know what type of magic dust Steve sprinkles on these things as he makes them but it must be pretty potent stuff.

Pecan Pie, Dilled Chicken, Cabbage Rolls, Cheese Burgers and fine scotch are in the same league with Steve's creations....but not much better.

Well...except for the Scotch!:chuckle: Sorry Steve!

3D fish and cast better as they are backloaded ( triangle taper) and with the lightest density in the back lifting from the water is easier.
They can carry quite sizable fly but not as big as comparable in weight PT, which have a more powerful tip.

I purchased a deer creek spey last spring. I was asking about different lines and was getting the usual this or that. It is time consuming and somewhat frustrating to get a rod dialed in. So I thought who better to discuss a line for the rod than the man who designed it. Gave Bob a call and Steve made the line. Cost about the same as off the shelf stuff' But no messing around
and the line works great. I have not tried it with sinking tips yet so can not comment.
There maybe better lines or better lines for specific applications, but I am happy.

I totally agree with what everyone else has said about Steve's work. It floors me how he can customize a line for almost any rod or application. He does it right the first time for no cost over some lines. Amazing! I have two, and they're sweet!
