Skagit line for Orvis shooting star 13' 7wt

Hey all, signed up a while ago but first time posting. I just moved out to central OR earlier this year and have been trying to figure out this swing game. It's ugly but I'm having a good time figuring it out.

I got this rod as a wedding gift from the Mrs 3 years ago and a buddy recommended a Rio AFS 7/8 line to go with it, so that's my setup. I also had someone help me build a few tips with T-14. I was swinging on the Deschutes with a 6' tip yesterday and once I got any line out, the tip seemed to be breaking down the cast. I think this line is a Scandi, not Skagit. So from what I've read, it's not a good line for attaching tips to? Does that sound right? So thinking I need another line for when I'm throwing tips. Assuming what Ive said is right, anyone have recommendations for a skagit line for this rod? Thanks

I think Rio recommends 425-475 gr Skagits for your rod. I find that the Rio recommendations are always a bit low for me.

I would say you would be fine in the 500-520 gr. area.

thanks a lot moe, very helpful. So if I understand this right, the 500 grain skagit flight head:

ought to work well. And then I'll need a running line to go with it. And with that setup, I can use sink tips on the business end of the head?
