I just bought Windcutter 7/8/9 Floater FS today (never owned a windcutter before). I want to use a sink tip on this line for winter fishing. Should I look at cutting back this line and braiding a loop on this Windcutter? Or should I not worry about modifying it and just run some 10' 15' versi leaders from the original line?

If cutting and braiding on a loop is the way to go how far back would you recommend?

WC tips

are cut at 15' for a sinking tip. If you need to get a little deeper, the old style was also cut at 30', and an intermediate sinking section was added between 15' and 30', before the sink tip. That gave you a 15' sinking tip with about a 15' intermediate "tail", followed by the floating belly of the line.

Maybe try this

I have a WC 5/6, and cut it back about 2' to about were the line is .050" and have no problems casting 10'-12' intermediate, type 3 and 6 sinktips (cut down Rio's) with a somewhat soft 12' rod (Scott LS) and I'm a fair caster. "Experts" who have cast the rod with just the WC 5/6 and polytips/mono leaders, say the rod is underloaded, so perhaps the tips add just a little more grainage to make it load and cast without problem.
