Talk to Todd (808steelheader). He has a bunch of them of finds that on the right rod they are the cat’s pajamas.

 

As noted, I love the Ambush lines, especially on single hand glass rods, winter and summer. They make single hand spey casting a blast.

I've tried them and they cast really nice, but the color is too much for me, just too bright.

I ise as single hand spey, switch rod spey, and singlehand stripping streamers. The short head works well for these applications.
I add T-8 sinktips when needed.
Overhead casting streamers these lines are my go to lines.

 

I use one on a switch rod. Works well single or double hand casts. Throws tips well.

 

I have used an ambush line on a switch rod. Line setup was more scandi and it would cast poly leaders and indy rigs. I heard heavier grain weights can be used as skagit, but don’t personally have experience putting true tips on an ambush taper.

 

They certainly are bright, much appreciated dawn and dusk though.

 

I have this line for all my rods from single handed to two handed. Very fun line! They seem to cast pretty much anything you tie onto them, within reason of course. But a very usefull and enjoyable casting line for sure. I agree it is bright but as cebe said, it's nice in low light.

 

I can definitlely see a couple more of these lines in my future. I just wish they were more easily available. Has any body tried both the heads and the integrated lines. If so, is there any appreciable difference between the two? I'm wondering if the integrated lines are worth the extra 40 bucks.

I think only you can answer that based on your fishing- both how you are fishing and the water you're fishing. And your approach. The integrated lines can be stripped in close more easily, so better for streamer work for sure. Mono running line means some more distance, and while everyone enjoys hucking long, there are a lot of places that don't need it. If you're fishing smaller to medium water, the coated running line can be just fine. And finally, if you have enough reels that you don't need to swap out a whole long line every time you want to approach fishing differently (change in conditions or river or season), you can have one rigged with the full line, another for heads.

 

I like the integrated for overhead casting and fishing streamers all the way back to the boat. One quick flip and shoot a little line into the backcast, it is a smooth transition for that forward line shoot.
For speycasting I find myself wishing I had a head with mono, but I have been unable to buy just the head.

 

If you go out to the Royal Wulff site, they have the Ambush heads, and they are about 40 bucks less than the integrated lines.

 

I have both the head and the integrated. Normally I prefer a head with mono rl. For the switch rod I’m using the ambush on I prefer the integrated. Mainly for reasons mentioned above.
