Hi guys,
Can someone give me the low-down on all the microspey trout rods currently available on the market. Curious about grabbing one before the big spring run off!

Here is a Blue Collar option. I know this is heresy and I'll probably get flamed but a Skytouch Trout Spey 11' 3 weight on Amazon for $115 Prime. Throws a nice loop with the Airflo Scandi Compact 240 grain. The Rio 240 Scandi Short is a rocket on this rod. Also does real nice with the RIO SSVT in both 3 and 4 weight. The Ambush in 4, 5 & 6 casts nice as well. The Rio Swich Chucker in 2 and 3 work nice on it as well. For throwing big and chunky flies a 175 grain OPST. Also really nice with the new 300 grain Ballistic Trout Spey Line.

What the #$^% is microspey? I picture an otter with a 1' rod trying to catch fish for dinner? Okay, I am an old grouch who does not think much of the marketing jargon. Smart** curmudgeon comments aside, there have been a few good reviews out there. I saw one in my email just this week, but cannot remember the source. There are some fly shops who put out reviews, and those might be a good place to start. I can think of a couple in Montana that are really good. Meiser and Anderson sure have been at this a long time. The trout I fish for are <18" most of the time, so I have a B&W 3wt that is my favorite rod, single or two-hand, ever for trout. I would start with all of those reviews then go try some. Go to a clave once this mess is over and try some of them.

For high end I'm loving the Meiser S2H1002S-4 for a mini micro spey. It's a very capable little rod. Any Meiser trout spey would be a winner. On the budget end I've been fishing the heck out of an Echo SR 3106 little switch rod. A really good performer and fun rod. They both do very well with 200 gr Commando heads. Lots of good choices in trout spey rods.

Great recommendations here. My personal favorite is the Winston BIII TH Micro-spey, a beautifully smooth rod which lives up to its name in every respect. The 3 wt for trout soft hackles and wooly bugger-sized flies or the 4 wt for flies up to medium sized streamers are wonderful, if pricey, choices. The 4 wt can handle fish up to 8 lbs as it has for me but is fun even with a good sized bluegill. The names Meiser, Anderson, B&W and others all offer truly extraordinary rods. Sage Trout Spey HD, Loomis IMX short spey, Beulah Platinum G2 trout Spey are wonderful too. The choices are many. Orvis offers the Mission rods, but I haven't heard how they cast. Here's hoping you find the perfect rod for you in the New Year!

Just start buying a rod at a time and figuring out what works with it. Then sell it or keep it and keep trying stuff out. Thats how I got started in the whole two handed thing. Reading the reviews or the whatever weight shootout writeup is fun if you are in an airport waiting to get on a plane and having a beer. Being able to demo a two hand set up is the key. Coug nailed it....when the smoke clears from COVID go to a clave and demo.
