(it doesn't coil and it just feels well made when you hold it in hand, sometimes when you hold something in your hands you can just feel the quality, thats maxima!)

That's because it's German made!:chuckle: Best stuff ever!

Every Maxima line is ca. 20% thicker then advertised, what creates impression that line is so strong. In reality based on the true diameter they are just avarage. It is all about diameter, larger diameter, more reliable is line.

Test/diameter on FC made by Seaguar or the one resoled by Rio are the real numbers.

If they started to advertised 20 lb ( 0.015") as 15 lb ( 0.012") then everybody would talk how strong FC is........

Among Seguar lines, some are softer and less abrasion resistance, others are stiffer and more abrasion proof.

Yep--that's about the size of it. I use it, but I know that when I'm using "12 lb." maxima I'm really using 16 lb diameter of other brands. I just wish the oil companies would use the same logic: they could sell 1.3 gallons as 1 gallon and tell us their gas took us further.

I know you're right because I've "mic'ed" myself.

But the real question (and I haven't seen anyone address it head on) is whether it's 20% stronger as well--is the test of the .10" (actually .12") UG really 10# rather than the 8# specified on the spool?

Frankly, I use it 'cuz I've always used it and I like the colour. I'm not comfortable with clear, sparkly tippet.

max UG

I've used Maxima Ultra green for 25 years at least. Chameleon for the salt.
When I gear guided on the Smith here in Norcal, virtually every guy I knew used UG. 10 lb to the swivel and 2 to 3 ft of 8 lb as tippet to the hook. This on a river where every cast could beat the 27lb 4oz state record set back in 74.
If memory serves we always thought 8lb broke around 11 while 10 was somewhere above 13.
I use 8 lb on all sink tips for coastal steelhead but I always buy a fresh spool at the start of the season.

I have tested multiple times Seaguar® AbrazX™ Flurocarbon ( $ 28/200 yards) 20 lb ( 0.016")or the one resold by Rio ( Fluoroflex) ( 20 lb , 0.0155")
tided to Maxima Clear/Chameleon 15lb ( real diameter 0.016") using Lefty non-slip loop or double/triple surgeon and all breaks were on Maxima. All knots were treated with saliva before were tighten.

Every new nylon line is a bit stronger then advertised test , but shorty after it has been exposed to light/oxygen its strength is reduced to and then below test numbers.

FC is essentially 100% resistant to light/oxygen for years.

This won't answer your specific question, but here are some fishing line test results. Maxima UG, and Chameleon are in the tests.

I've read other line tests, and they all show the variances of stated vs actual diameters of different brands of line. I don't think that's a surprise to most Maxima.....or Berkley Big Game users. It's an accepted fact, that doesn't really sway their opinion of the line.

Thanks brian.

I couldn't remember the web sites (and there's a fishing TV show where guy does breaking tests) and the results were amazing. Only one line (or leader?) 'under-tested' what was on the spool.

Just my personal thoughts only, but over 6#'s I think all these things are 'heavier.' Whisper leader things (which I can't even tie anymore) may be close to the mark.
