There's a whole lot of skatin' going on, numerous cool muddlers in photos and texts. But recently on the Clearwater I was introduced to the "bulllethead" muddler. I love dry-line skating but don't especially like foam. I thought the BH meandered and waked really nicely, and wonder if y'all have an experience with the fly, or even images of ones you've tied.

From what you're describing, is it similar to the muddler style used commonly in atlantic salmon fishing? I see alot of mudlers with tight, angled heads in Gaspe.
A traditional bullet head fly is commonly used on grasshopper patterns as well as other large trout patterns like salmon flies.

As you can see it is very similar to a muddler but instead of a spun head, the hair is tied in facing forward, then pulled back to create the bullet head. I imagine this is what is meant by a bullet head muddler. In my experience they don’t float particularly well, but would be very easy to hitch a skate/wake.

I grew up fishing Mike Lawson's Henry's Fork Salmon fly. His Henry's Fork Hopper is pictured above. The bullet head dives under tension, which was why these patterns were really successful compared to the higher floating patterns on pressured trout. Never thought to try to skate it intentionally.
