Snipe and Purple is a change out fly. Meaning, If I am losing confidence in my first line up, I goto either my "wee insult" (small starling and peacock) or the Purple and Starling (sometimes a small muddler or even a small drowned stimulator). Now, this does not happen often, but it does.

The last time I had to run through the deck was two years ago in small streams (so not a spey rod) in Algoma looking for Brookies. What worked was the drowned stimulator, and it was like turning on a switch, and there was no evidence of a hatch.

Not big, not coasters, but pretty and it is sort of nice to hike up a river and look and explore.

Yes, I have larger, but unless I notice there is a serious hatch or surface activity, I will scout with a size 16-18. I want in the film,

Not a very productive day of tying. Given the current flows on the Farmington, I should get to swim these soon. Again, bucktail deceivers on a 60mm shanks. I'm a converted saltwater guy and BobPop's flies are a favorite. I've done well this year on hook tied BTDs, pretty much the only streamer that I have thrown this year. Obviously, I like like the yellow/orange/red/ olive/brown color scheme.

Tied a few sea run cutthroat flies for an upcoming trip to Oregon. These are both a totally new pattern to me and a bit of a throwback to my first year of tying...I got into fly fishing and tying through tenkara, so when I was doing research for the trip and came across reverse spiders for SRCs, I knew I had a tie a bunch.

Super fun to revisit the old kebari-style techniques with wild colors and bigger saltwater hooks...hoping between these and the poppers I can scare up a few salty trout this week!

after years of tying my own chronomids, leaches and pumpkin heads, ect. for stillwaters, got into some freestyle larger flies. trying to keep them smaller to match my 5wt dually (mostly size 8) I've always had good luck with buggers and sparrows, so I took a lot of influence from that and of course the forum and instagram lol.

for my first batch i'm fairly happy with them, cant wait to get them wet and see what happens!
