As I currently wait for my local Great Lakes tributaries to see some rain, let’s see some pics and hear the stories of past steelhead/Great Lakes rainbows that have been worthy adversaries for other members! I’ll start.
This fish was the first one I caught on my sage 6126 igniter. It was a cold March day and I decided to head to my local flow for an after work swing session. Frankly I couldn’t have asked for better conditions. The river was at peak flow and clarity was perfect.
After fishing my first run of the evening with nothing to show I dropped into one of my favourite runs on that stretch of river. About a third of the way down the run this fish gave me a textbook grab, mid swing and she took off running almost immediately. After stopping her first run she decided to take to the air and gave me quite an aerial show for how cold the water was. After a few more good runs she finally gave up and let me get a quick pic before I let her go back. I had two more grabs that afternoon as I made it further down that run but no more connections. For an after work trip I couldn’t have asked for better especially on a river where you typically have to work for 1 fish.
