Bridge lines

i’ve been looking at some different types of lines recently for my ACR 12’6” 6wt Nova spey rod. tried the OPST lines and there ok but not really what a was hoping for with my casting ability, i like the ease of the mow tips and a 10’ T-8. i’ve been seeing some references as of late about the Bridge lines, torrent, tributary etc. not really looking for a long line but the shortness and bulk of the OPST lines was a little out of my interest.
anyone have experience with these lines and if so what type of tips or poly’s worked out?
thanks

Tributary is for fishing a dry line. I just use a mono leader ~15’~

Wintertide is a Tributary with the front taper cut down for fishing different sinking tips.
~110 grains?~

Torrent is a skagit head with slightly more length for a less “clunky” feel.

I have only fished the Tributary so everything else is just what I have read from others.

Trib will cast poly's and tapered leaders. I've cast fast sink 10' poly's before but very seldom. This is my top water or just sub surface line. You can also cast tips, but it's not designed for it.
Wintertide casts tips extremely well. Medium sized flies and up to T14 comfortably. 10' of T7-T11 is the happy spot. Large flies and heavier tips can be done in the heavier grain weights, but...
The Torrent is the heavy payload line. Lands very quiet and can turn over T20 and big flies.

If I could only fish one line it would probably be the Wintertide. Throw a floating tip on it and you've got a dry line.

I’m a big fan of Tim’s tapers - they are all impressive. For what it sounds like you’re looking for the decision is between the Wintertide and Torrent. In the lighter grain weights that would be good for your 1266 Nova the Torrent will be 21-22’ or the Wintertide 26-27’ - neither of those lengths are long lines. That said, both are longer than the very short OPST head. The Torrent will be a bit easier to cast and be capable of handling more payload. If you want the ability go up in tip weight and fly size/weight with as much ease as possible, go Torrent. If you want a bit more grace and a bit better with touch n’ go casts, go Wintertide.

The truth is, I’d suggest both. ;)

I have a ACR 6120-4, 6129-4 and 6130-4
These are the lines/tips that worked best for me
- Rio Scandibody 375 gr 23’ head - 14' Airflo clear floating Polyleader or 10' Rio medium Versileaders
- Rio Scandi 3D #5/6 H/I/S3 390 Grain 32’ head - 10' Rio Medium Versileader in 4 or 5 ips
- Rio Skagit max Launch 450 grain 23’ head with 10' T-8 or T-11

Gary told he liked this rod with a 360gr but one could up or down 20gr, i was throwing T-8 10’ and found that i needed a compact scandi 400gr that this rod seemed to really liked and the OPST 350gr with 132gr 12’ tips, i’m thinking about one of the bridge lines 400gr or 425gr to throw small to medium flies and a T-8 or T-11 sink tips, i like to comment on slipping on a floating tip for dry lining as well, i need to watch the market place page for one to try out. this is mainly being used for summer run, ill try the torrent first and a wintertide if i find one

I shopped for a 570gr torrent line yesterday and the few US shops that carry them have either removed them from their product line or the torrents were out of stock. I didn't look for the other varieties or weights but saw most of them greyed out on several sites. Maybe they are just flying off the shelf because of all the positive reviews of them on SP.

Kind of wanted the wintertide due to the specs and reviews but most of my fishing with this rod is sinktips and weighted flies, making me think the torrent will be a better fit, that and I already have sink tips 10' and 15' around 100gr each. I'll report back after I've had a chance to test things out.

Just for what it's worth... A few of us have played with the sink tip/Wintertide combination restriction. There is a post here, somewhere, of someone who REALLY played with it. T17 or T20. I've gone up to T17 with a large two station in pretty fast water. Granted it was a very heavy Wintertide (fishing on a B&W 8-10) but it did it with a bit of effort. Casting 12' of T14 and a 4inch Magnum Bunny leech was also done, with some effort. As far as payload delivery, it can do it.

If you mostlyfish heavy tips and heavy flies in heavy water, buy the Torrent.
Then, buy the Wintertide as well. You won't regret it.
