Most recent obsession, swinging flies for steelhead with bamboo single handers. Who here takes part in such and share picture of your rods please!

Well my first bamboo single hander was a sharpes scottie 10’ 6/7 spliced joint because I was under the same impression but after talking to a couple people who really know bamboo and steelhead, as long as the rod was built for steelhead fishing, Winston’s, ec Powell’s that kinda stuff you’ll be just fine!
a lot of other rods out there, those are just my personal favorites so far 😏

I've been swinging flies for steelhead, sea run browns and Atlantics with bamboo for some time now. Only been fanatical about it for about the last seven years. Now, it's an obsession. I've been very fortunate to be able to swing fish on cane in Alaska, BC, PNW, Russia, and Patagonia. Sometimes with a two hander and sometimes with a single hander depending on the size of the rivers. Mostly with a wet fly but sometimes with a dry. My first 20# sea run brown on a dry just came to hand this year.

Nice find on the Ashaway. Here’s an early ‘30s ad for Ashaway. Yours is post WWII because of what’s not on the box which they dropped after the war.

@GR8LAKES FLYER Mike, thank you!! That shape I got from EC powells and brought it down to what feels PERFECT in my hand! I understand why powells and Winston’s used that, those aggressive curves, it feels good! I’ll post more pictures when I’m done with the rod.

Yes, the old Winston's as well
In Trey Comb's book Steelhead Flyfishing and Flies, there is a photo of fly rod handles showing the unique cork tapers of steelhead fly rods. You can see how the Winston's & Powell's are compared to others.
