Hi there, Folks:

Please forgive my ignorance, and suffer another novice question:
It is my understanding that Spey casting can only be practiced on water...i.e, it doesn't work on grass, because the friction of the water is needed to load the rod...is this indeed true? Thank you..

Spey casting requires friction, that is 100% true... but if you can create that "grip" anywhere you can probably spey cast.

If you do a search for "grass leader" there is some valuable discussion on the topic. I'm sure you'll get enough info to try it for yourself.

Generally, the concept is to tie a leader with blood knots spaced every so many inches, leaving the tag ends sticking out to create friction.

Good luck
