Hey gang. I just placed an order for a 4" Olson G&P through Red Shed (Thanks Poppy!) but thought I'd sniff around and see if there are any out there looking for new homes. (Poppy - I still want that 4"er!) I'd prefer all-black in 3 3/4" and up. G&P preferred, but disc considered.

I have some cool trade bait, including a really impressive 3 3/4" wide-drum war-time Perfect built by Jimmy Smith and restored by John Mackenzie.

If you have an Olson, maybe we can work something out.

I have had one on order through Poppy for about 10 mos.
Notice the lead time for delivery has increased from 12mos to 14.
Was hoping to get mine before the Red Shed Clearwater Spey Clave.
Poppy came up with a 4'' and I snagged it as I was not sure when my order from Olson will come in and I want to fish one this fall. Still have my hopes up the new one will get here in September.
Hope you can find one! It's worth the wait!:)

Oh I'll gladly wait 14 months. No problem. Just thought I'd see if there might be one floating around out there. Especially since "The Great San Jose Thompson Hunt" isn't producing. Ha.

My wife and buddies I worked with, bought me one for a retirement gift. It sits on a mid 90's Clan. Sweat setup that was Christened last year on the Clearwater.......no more fitting way in my mind.

I think you both have exceptional personal taste in 'equipment.' Life time (and beyond) just yours.

Me thinks, me thinks.

Good lord. Poppy, I don't know if I should thank you or... ha. I still want the one I ordered through you, but if you come by an all black reel in pretty much any size, I'm your huckleberry.

And then there's that San Jose Thompson. Like I said. Hen's teeth!

All sorts of PMs sent back!

BTW - this reel is going to hand on my James Reid 12'3" 7/8wt. James is a good friend, and his rod deserves a special reel.

Just in case anyone is curious, here's a couple photos of the rod the reel will hang on:

Courtesy of my friend James:

Flying to Pennsylvania over the weekend to tidy up some last minute details for my wedding next month. I may be slow in responding to PMs, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested!

Thanks again all,

Since you're going to be in PA, head up to western NY and drop off that sweet stick. I'll babysit her for you, keep her exercised, while you're honeymooning.

I sear I'll remember to return her.

What?

Now what makes ya think this rod won't be going on my honeymoon? Ha! We're planning on 2+ weeks in Yellowstone, but if we get blown out with weather (mid- late-October), may head to Oregon or Idaho.

Nice rod though, yeah? James is a craftsman of the finest sort. Needs an Olson.

That will be an awesome time to be in the park. And congratulations. Love it there. My son and I squeezed in several days on our way home from my western tour this summer. He and I have maxed out our time there a few years. This year mostly work, sometimes more play.

I'm aiming for one of James's rods. We'll see.

That's actually James's reel, but I have one just about like it. The Shakes is a highly under-rated reel.

I think I now own five of those 1899s. Super cool reels for switch and light speys. They don't take too kindly to being dropped on the rocks, though...

I can't stop buying them. Newest one has a frozen handle that needs to be worked out.
