I am looking for a Burkheimer 9145 rod. Needs to be in good condition and Vintage or Presentation model is a big preference.

A great taste for a great rod. Although 9145-4 is very versatile rod with variety of lines, for me it shines particularly with a head 55' and under when underhand spey casting. Guidleline 3D heads 10/11 cut back to 36.5 - 38 g/ 11.2 - 11.5m, depending on the sinking rate, are ideal and the rod will cast near full 9/10 (13 m).

If you like 9145-4, consider also CFB 8134-4 or 7127-4, which have a very similar taper and feel.

Good Luck in your search !!!

Thanks Sazan

Thanks Sazan,

I tried the 9145 long time ago and thought it was an impressive rod. Nowadays I own 8134 and love it! Now when I have learned the 8134 and I would like to have a little sturdier rod but with same character 9145 seems to be natural choice to me.

How much does the 55' head weight that you like to use?

I wish somebody is willing to apart with his 9145. I saw there was couple used for sale for awhile ago but at the time I wasn't yet looking after it.

To be specific, it depends on the taper. More backloaded head a bit less weight needed to lead a rod properly.

Airflo Delta, which is essentially a very long Scandi head, 8/9 ca. 570 gr( 37gr)/52' feel light but crisp using pure underhand cast. It has essentially the same weight as a perfect, cut back Guideline 3D 10/11 at 38' , but the GL 10/11 is shorter and so loads better.

I have never cast Delta 9/10 ( 630 gr), but it is probably great, however may require a bit more top hand push.

WA 45 ( mine is overweighted 7/8 which weights 596gr/39 g at 46' to be specific) + leader works very well using underhand cast. After removing 12' tip, one can add 100-120 gr in form of 10-15' tip.

I am sure Hardy or other have longer scandi head type lines in 50-55' range and 600 gr or so weight.

Occasionally, I see some fly fishers have 9145-4 for sale, so you need to be patient.

Cheers,

S
