I'm with john8 and Leo. I learned 50+ years ago from my father to fly fish with a Pflueger reel, which was right hand reel. I never considered switching, because to me, Pflueger was the ultimate. All dad's Mitchell spinning reels were left hand wind, so I learned to cast right and retrieve right (fly), and cast right, retrieve left (spinning).

Bob - we have a lot in common or we learned from the best 😀. Same Pfleugers which were replaced by Hardy’s and Mitchell 300 spinning reels. Still have all these reels today.

RHW is the way to reel. When a fish peels line the reel knob is out of the way.
