It's difficult to keep up to date with all the upcomming competitions and some of them I don't hear about before they are completed.

T make it easier to know about the upcomming competitions maybe we could make a calender of the competitions and other events.

This are the competitions I know about:

2-4 September 2006 Emerald World Masters
? 2007 Kelso angling show
2-3 or 3-4 (?) June 2007 National Country Fair - International Open Spey Casting Championship
27-29 Juli 2007 CLA - International Open Spey Casting Championship

I have heard rumours that the Spey-O-Rama will not be arranged next year. Is this correct?

Anybody know the date and place of other competitions this and next year?

I spoke to Eion regarding the Tweed Fair, he said it will be held over the 5&6 of May. The weekend after Spey O-rama.

It should continue to grow as one of the main International competitions.

That's a shame. The national country fair was a very nice event.

Do you have any more information about the competition in co.derry?

Spey-O-Rama is on this year.

It has been moved back to its former time slot at the end of April (28, 29th). So far it is looking good, I know that a number of competitors from Japan are planning to make the trip and the Club has made a push to get more women competitors and I know at least a couple of BC females that are making the trip.

For more info check here http://www.ggacc.org/p/p.aspx?mlid=4

The correct date is April 13-15th

I was contacted by one of the Golden Gate members and while the Competition is definitely a go - there is still a question of the actual date. It may be earlier in April, they not yet settled on the date, but will let us know as soon as they are.

2007 rules

Spey-O-Rama
Jimmy Green
Casting Competition

Equipment
Rod: Must be model that is or has been available for sale to the general public
15’1” maximum length
Line: Floating synthetic line, either full line or shooting head. No restrictions on running line.
Leader: 9 foot minimum, 15 foot maximum.
Fly: Will be supplied

Required casts
Casters can use whatever cast they choose in four situations:

Line from the right – over right shoulder and over left shoulder
Line from the left – over right shoulder and over left shoulder

Casting rules
Change of direction will be set by markers at about 40 degrees (same as 2006)
Caster will be in water – about 3 feet deep
There will be a barrier 33 feet behind the caster. No penalty for hitting it, but it will
affect the cast
Fly must anchor in front of caster
If Perry Poke used, only one “dump” allowed per cast and fly may not leave water on “dump”.
Once a cast is begun, it counts as a scoring cast.
An inadvertent “extra” cast in a required category will not be counted against the caster’s
allowed casts in any other category, but will use the caster’s time.

The Competition
Qualifying will be held on Saturday morning with top 10 casters going to finals on
Sunday morning

Qualifying •3 casts each for the 4 required casts. Total score is total of best distances
for each of the 4 required casts.
•Time limit is 6 min. with 2 min. warmup
Finals •3 casts each for the 4 required casts. Total score is total of best distances
for each of the 4 required casts.
•Time limit is 6 min. with 2 min. warmup
•Casting order by random draw

Friday practice time (20 min) at official casting station can be reserved by signup.

Tie-breakers

In the event of a tie for any place, the tie will broken by totaling each competitor’s second best casts in each of the four categories.

Notes to 2007 Spey O Rama Rules

There are only three fairly small changes to the rules from 2006 to 2007.

1. Qualifying

Competitors will have three casts in each or the four categories, rather than the two they were allowed in 2006

2. Back barrier

The back barrier will be approximately 33 feet behind the caster. The most significant change is that the barrier will be continuous, more substantial and denser, so likely to kill any cast that hits it. This will make a Perry Poke with a long headed line impractical or at least risky.

3. Tie breakers

In case of a tie for first place (or any other place) it will be broken by taking each competitor’s total of his/her second best casts in each of the four categories.
