Beauties, Dave. The transition from blue to red in the second stopped my dead in my tracks. You're the Michelangelo of fly tying.

I'm fascinated by this concept of specific flies for specific rivers for essentially the same fish. Need to read up on that!

The second one, "Primary Colors" was washed in the famous Ladder Pool of the Darmouth river. It fished perfectly. A well balanced fly that rode true and sank like a stone if I needed it to thanks to its tapered body and low water profile. It changed the way I tie hairwings.
It was just the ticket to entice a salmon from the depths.
Not 15 minutes earlier, my fishing partner, who was also fishing a Gotz creation landed a feisty grilse!
An early morning with no action and then 2 fish using Gotz flies! It was a special day.
I will always be grateful.

For those of you who have never been there, the Ladder Pool on the Dartmouth is one of the rare treats!!!
Dave - Does this location look familiar? the Ladder Pool is right below where I'm standing.

George: Regretfully I never got to fish in Canada. Hitcher John was the guy who fished the Ladder Pool, and I'm glad he did !!

Dave - Great stretch on that river. The beat has 6 pools and allows 4 rods. The way in is via a series of steps and pathways down the side of the gorge. For me it was always worth the effort.

reminds me of a similar section on the Pinware in Newfoundland. Tough landing fish!!
Actually all the water fished on this stretch begins just downstream from what you see in the photo. The wading is easy and there is plenty of room to play and safely land the fish.

It has been way too long, Rob!!
We'll have to get together with Greg and do some fishing this summer!

I'll bring the Gotz flies! I'm sure they'll tempt a Miramichi salmon!
I hope you guys manage to pull this off. Just surveyed my flies as a Gaspe Wannabe and found four that would love to take the journey with you. Sized 6-8. Let me know and good luck

John, you better let me know if you're on the Miramichi, young man!!
Gary!
You know I will!
I missed you this past season for obvious reasons, but I did swing a Celtic Beauty in your honour not too far downstream from your place.
The fishing was tough when I was there, but I did hook and lost a couple of fresh fish on a size 8 Hairy Mairy!
Same old story... fish ran early morning and late evening. Pools and water where I was fishing were void of fish other than that.
You had to have your fly in front them when they were running. Very small windows of opportunity.
It would be great to fish together again.
