I recently bought a Salmon 1 Humber edition. Every time I've fished with it the same pawl comes off the post and rattles around in the reel. I have another Salmon one and this has never happened. The pawls are set correctly as well. Any help with a solution would be great!

I'll bet the spring for the pawl that's falling off has been messed with and is not putting enough tension on the pawl. See if you can compare the two springs and adjust the "loose" one accordingly, just a little stretching should do it.

Have you oiled the handle post as recommended on maintenance chart? Not uncommon to be overlooked.

Kidding aside, was the reel fished before coming to you? If so, same side crank / retrieve? Just wondering if there might be any history available. Pretty new reel to have weak spot but certainly possible.

Best of luck.. B

Supernova: I have the same reel (The Miramichi and a Salmon No.1) and the pawls have never slipped off their posts. Try adjusting the springs like klickrolf stated but be sure not to open the elbows so that they snap back in place. A dab of grease on the pawls will help also.

Salmon 1

Hello Pete

i am sorry you are having trouble with the reel as it was purchased as a new reel from M & Y in Vancouver and the reel was never tempered with. A suggestion that you may consider as a form of trouble shooting is to interchange the right pawl for the left and see if the issue follows the same pawl. If it does than it may indicate a clearance issue with the slot on the pawl, probably been too wide.
