I have a Burkheimer 9143-3 vintage model 9wt spey rod and i am trying to find the right speyco reel for any good ideas thanks.
As long as you have the weight you need for the rod you'll be fine with either reel. With an uplocking reel seat, which I believe your rod has, just make sure you have the weight to balance the rod. On my 9145 it takes about 13 oz empty and it is an uplocking seat. Add to that a couple ounces of backing (200 yards 30#) and an ounce or so of running line on the reel and I'm at 15 to 16 oz loaded. That'll be darn close to what you need I would suspect. You might get away with 14 to 15 oz as you're a couple inches shorter and a 3 piece.I believe the one montanafos has listed is suitable for 14'+ rods...
