Actually a very practical way to view both colour and material blend , good thinking
I prefer tying in horns the way you did , longer than the wing . Often I reverse the natural curve and have them flare out from the wing . Adds a bit more movement ... often I do the Hendrik "strip" at mid swing , which pulses the fly and causes hackles and wing to flare and move . By reversing the horns , they flare too
