One of the beliefs I was taught in the catholic highschool I graduated from was that satan tempts us to sin. To do things that maybe we shouldn't do or to overindulge ourselves.

Well if that is the case, Dana Sturn has been sent by Satan to tempt me!

Today I sent my baby, my Sage 9140-3 European, into Sage to get the reel seat repaired as it was swivelling. I mentioned this to Dana earlier this week, and out of his goodwill and character lent me a Loop 9140-4 blue which I tried at our casting meet and raved a bit about, to take up the space of my casting practice sessions while my baby is gone. Well this is why Dana has been sent here by Satan:

I cast the Loop at my local casting haunt today, and it was simply beautiful! I was impressed even more than the first time I tried it last week at our little casting meet. The line I worked it with was my Rio Grandspey 8/9. Many consider the Sage 9140-3 (myself included) as one of hottest most well rounded two handers ever made and a rocket with the snake roll and/or tips. I am quite used to my baby, so the fact I felt so comfortable with this rod and how it cast really says something in how I feel it will tackle just about anything required of it. From long lines, to tips, to the finer aspects of a smaller stream. I think this rod can do it.

Second off, it is 4 pieces versus my 3 piecer

Third, it is a nice aesthetically pleasing blue colour with excellent components and a nice rod tube.

Damn you Satan, why must you tempt me? I thought I had settled down with my little honey Sage 9140-3 and was happy, but then you throw a curve ball at me......Oh well. Thank god I don't have the $$$ to buy this rod right now or else I might buy it!

Amen!

Scott.... hmmm, lets see.... have you perchance had the CND 15'6" Salar Specialist in your hands?

Just give Satan's friend the Evil One a call - I hang out in Mordor:devil: :smokin:

Tyler,
I tried the CND Expert 13' 7/8 (I think?) at the casting meet on Sunday the 7th and I was quite impressed for what it's worth. The way you talk about the 14'4 CND tempts me quite well, to at least try it for sure!

I also tried the Loop Blue 7 wt 11'6 with a Delta spey and I was impressed with that combo too. For a short rod it sure cast nicely.

And all the Loop 15' 10 wt's (blue and yellow) I tried that Dana brought I was impressed with; they are all cannons! A bit too much for me though, I'm still satisfied with the 14' footer though.

We'll have to have a little cast out in one of your's or Dana's haunts perhaps in the near future and maybe you could tempt me with some CND's as well perhaps?

I'm free this coming weekend...

Scott

Yellow 9140 vs. 10150

I have a yellow 9140 that I really enjoy, but have considered a Yellow or Blue 10150. The 10 wts. seem like a whole lot more rod than I might be willing to use for an extended period of time. Any thoughts on how well the 9140 may handle 300 Big Boys and the like?

Thanks, John
