Hey there everyone,

I am looking to get into the use of switch rods for some of the mainland rivers here in Nova Scotia, Canada. I am looking to go cheap for my first switch rod, however, many of the online options (including some rods in the 500-700 dollar range) do not list the grain window.

Here is an example of one rod (on the very cheap side) that I am looking into.

Could anyone give me some suggestions?

I am looking at 11ft 7wt rods primarily.

first- do you have any friends that might loan you lines to test, second- a nearby and willing fly shop that might aid you, third go to the
rio and echo websites. There you willing find line recommendations for many 11' 7 weight rods take an average of these recommended
lines and give one a try.

Try searching for the older Scott A3 switch. St Croix Imperial is another great budget switch (these are rated as SH rods so go up a size or two, in your case 8wt should do)

Search online and see what lines others are using. Grain windows could be confusing for beginners.
