Yes, they’ll pounce on a bug nymph or purpose-tied carp fly in the summer (and fall, and spring, and winter, if you’ve got open water). Spooky to approach and they can be finicky, but once you hook one, be ready to see your backing — and keep your knuckles clear of the reel handles.
Ive chased golden bones around a little as well (note my Speypages handle). They are TOUGH, maybe the most difficult fish I’ve chased. They’ll test your spotting skills, stalking skills, casting skills, vocabulary… and gear once you connect. I admire them - they thrive no matter how badly we try to screw up the ecosystem. My local lake has thousands of trout planted every year, lots of time and money spent adding / improving structure for bass, and the carp do just fine without any help.

Havent gotten any swinging, though.
