I'm curious what rods people like for landing big fish in close quarters. 8 & 9 weights under 13'. I realize most of these rods are going to be scandi-type actions, but I'd like a moderate progressive action. Easy casting, big fish tool. Skagit 650 + 8-10ft of t-14. Any ideas?

Call Meiz...

Bob Meiser has a 12.5 foot MKS that is right up your alley. I think he rates it and 8/9 wt, but I found it took the 650gr Rio Skagit line for me to load it properly. Smooth and effortless casting...like all the MKS series.

I run an 8126 Sage and it takes a good sixe fish to put a decent bend into it. Rio rates it at 550 for a Skagit, but that is a bit light for me. 600-650 dials it in pretty well. More of a Scandi rod though.

I use this for kings in the GL's on bigger rivers swinging flies.

Thanks for the replys. Looks like there is another thread asking basically the same question. This is a rod that probably wouldn't see a ton of use, so I have an interest in lower priced options. Anybody know anything about the tfo? Any others around the $300 price point.
