When I was 13 or so I read Trout for the first time. I remember seeing the mcginty and thought it was so cool. I tied one or two and on a warm June day on the Henry’s Fork I fished it for the first time. A pair of trout were hanging out near the bank, swimming around and not really feeding. The pmd hatch had been finished for a few hours and we were about to leave. I tied on a mcginty and slowly stripped it past one of the fish, to my surprise the fish charged it and smashed into it. Didn’t really take so much as body slammed it. I was stunned.
Fast fwd a few( a lot ) years and I saw an exquisite mcginty tied for steelhead in Swing the Fly and put it on my list of must tie patterns. Finally got around to doing that today. What a cool bug 🐝
