I would fish em any day in early spring.
I believe the intruder/squidro styles are more proven on your steelhead waters than on our salmonwaters. Tempeldog flies are the go-to flies over here...I like em! Reminds me of a Scarlet Macaw. I've never fished for Atlantic Salmon, buy I would imagine a steelhead would be very curious to see one of those come fluttering past as well.
