We are going to be in Vancouver in 2006 and thought that we would spend a couple of days on Squamish River. Any thoughts as to tackle, fishing that river, etc?

Thanks in advance,
David

When?

the timing makes a difference. You should contact Todd at Upstream Adventures, one of the site sponsors to check. He will have good information.

David,

When are you planning to be in Vancouver? The steelhead are in the river in March and April - however, due to poor returns and a major spill from a train de-railment this fall we are expecting closures. They may be partial or complete, we don't know yet.

The Vedder, while not as pleasant a fishing experience as the Squamish will probably provide the best opportunity to hook a steelhead. The Vedder season is from Christmas through the end of April - or even into May if the water levels stay down. As well, the Skagit/Sauk is only a couple of hours from Vancouver.

Kush,

We have not booked the tickets so we can go virtually anytime. Early spring was our tentative target date. The Squamish has appeal as we have read how beautiful the area is.

t_richerzhagen,

Thanks, I have also sent off emails to Whistler Fly Fishing and Dana.

Kush is right on the ball. The best time to fly fish for steelhead in the Vedder is in April and May if the conditions are right. The gear guys normally don't bother to renew their lic's at the end of March, and you can have days when you seem to have the river all to yourself.
