Instead of trying to fix a split JC nail may I suggest using the split to your advantage and split the nail and use it to complete a smaller fly. The JC on this fly was split in three .I removed the 2 outer pieces ,rounded the end to a better shape and tied it on this fly . I've attached a pic of the cape this nail came from .Most of these will be tyed on using this method

I often do this to get some nails for smaller flies. Your idea to round off the end a bit looks like a good one as well. Thanks for sharing.

hank's guys .Glad to have been of some help. BTW, John took my 1st fish on the Escoumins with that fly . It also works very well on the York and Matapedia
