it's OK

I just got it, and it is OK.
I think I would go for the new Sage video or Rio's new video first. Yin can cast awesome but this is a dry video, you will be wishing for the excitement of the Mike maxwell video's when you are done with this. These guys shoot the video on the Deschutes and don't show any fishing, they barely talk about fishing. This sport is still about fish, Right?

The "sport" is about fishing to a great many people. However I thought the "Spey to Z" dvd was about becoming a better caster.

Spey to Z is a superb production made by 3 VERY dedicated Spey casters !Gotta be IMHO one of the best ,if not THE best. What you see on the DVD is just exactly what these three folk are. Most ,if not all, the SP Sponser shops have it in stock. WELL worth the price .
If you want mindless "fish " DVD's may I suggest one of the idiotic pretentious and pulcritudinous videos by the great and illustrious Tim Teeny .Chock full of miraculous fish catchin' .

Good pickup !!! Actually I used Tim to avoid being brought into the courts for slander ,as Tim's twin bro has a knack for protecting his name:roll:

........................I think we're all familiar with some of "Tim's" antics:Eyecrazy:,however,I happened to talk to him at a show a couple of years ago. While we mostly talked about bird hunting,he didn't seem to be the person portrayed in his videos. I thought maybe he had just mellowed a bit,or maybe there just wasn't any rocks nearby.:saevilw:

I have seen other (both informative and entertaining) video's, and I think the producers could have made a better video. There are a number two-handed videos coming out right now, and I think it is fair to want the most complete and quality video possible. I feel like they short changed it so that they could get it to market. They did not give it away though, and I wanted it to have more (fishing technique and fish catching).

No doubt, these guys can cast and they are working with great tackle manufacturers, I'm just wishing there was more.

No Refund, DVD does job

Mr. Yin,

PM sent

I do not want a refund. I was sharing my thoughts. Reviewing the DVD, I do see that it bills it self as a casting video, not a fishing video. My bad, kinda.

Please consider that a little fish porn is fun to watch, and that people would value more insights on fishing technique as well as casting, especially from you guys. But, also understand that my critique was not directed at you guys.

I was very impressed with your casting on your video. You have built a reputation for excelling as a caster, and the video certainly proves that it is a reputation that you deserve. I want to learn more about casting Traditional long belly lines and that is one of the reasons I purchased "Spey to Z". I learned a lot in that regard.

I was also, interested in seeing more on scandinavian and skagit casting, as those are techniques that I am already using. The instruction in that part of the video is also good.

I was hoping to see something with more fishing related insights, such as mending, slowing/speeding the fly in the swing. Granted, the DVD does not advertise any of these things, so I do see that my critique may be unfounded, and was obviously unwelcome by most people.

Hey Winter's Hope,

No worries mate, no offense taken. You have a very valid point. There is NO fish porn in this DVD. It is really good to point out that if someone is not that interested in spey casting instruction but buys the DVD hoping that there is a bit of fishing mixed in they may be disappointed.

Believe it or not we thought we could get two chapters done in a weeks time. One on casting and one on fishing and have the hole thing under two hours so folks could site through it. What a laugh, we learned a lot. Our number one goal was to make a DVD that showed various ways to cast and breakout of the "my way or the highway" kind of pretentious way of teaching spey casting. So after a bad weather day or two, some production standstills while vegetarian sandwiches where brought up from town and various other slow downs it became obvious that we needed to slow down and take our time and make sure that our goal of making the kind of casting DVD that we wanted was done. We focused on just the casting with the idea that hopefully we could make a 100% pure fishing tech DVD in the future. As it turned out this was a great decision in that the thing would have been 4 hours long and very expensive to produce. More money to produce would mean less money to contribute to the causes that we are giving the proceeds to.

Again, your point is a good one... if you want fish porn, there are better DVD's to purchase. Myself, as a fisher 1 and a caster 2, I really hope it works out to do a fishing tech DVD in the future that would include steelhead, trout and Atlantic salmon.

Cheers,

Greg

GB Spey - pray tell. I've learned so much over the years fishing with the total dudes, but never gods like Hickson, O'Keefe, Culver, or the dude who fishes for Permit from his sea kayak and sleeps in the mangroves.. I think I have my technique and equipment dialled for me to fish a swing as effectively as I ever will be able to, from 20 feet out to 150 feet, but there is so much to learn without having to resort to jigging, or having sliding weights on the fly, or god forbid, an indicator.

If anyone is interested, we are almost halfway to breaking even on the project. If we make something that looks green instead of red and
"says: Overdue", we may hold some back as seed money for a next venture - take what we all have learned, and lets jam fishing. North Coast of the Kola, Gaspe low and clear, big guns on the T, technical midday stuff on the Deschutes. How to pick the right gear for the task at hand, and how to JACK lip. Rockin' hatch oreinted videography, some killer music, graphic fish porn, hardcore rock and roll this is how we fish video. I don't know if it would sell though... A chopper shot on a 30 pounder during the first week on the Kola would be cool...
