With a year's warning, I think I might try for a timeshare trade to San Francisco to get to see this in person. Where in San Francisco is the Golden Gate Angling Club? Anybody have a street address so I can do a map quest search? Thanks in advance.
You don't by chance know how to get in touch via telephone with Mr. John Till, the gentleman who organizes the much of the Spey O' Rama?? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance and have a great evening!
The Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club will present the third annual Spey-O-Rama May 5-7, 2006 at the world renowned casting ponds in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
The event is open to the public and admission is free.
The event will center on:
•Casting demonstrations and instruction in all styles of spey casting
•Exhibits and free trials of a huge array of two-hand rods and lines
•An international spey casting competition with the world’s best casters
Among the demonstrators and competitors will be the all time distance champion Scott McKenzie, Gordon Armstrong and other outstanding casters from Scotland, the Syrstad twins from Norway, Andy Murray of Hardy from England, Nobuo Nodera and a contingent from Japan, Dana Sturn of Spey Pages and other strong casters from Canada, master teacher and caster Simon Gawesworth of England and Idaho, the Rajeff brothers and Mel Krieger from the U.S. They will teach all the styles and variations of spey casting including UK traditional, Scandinavian, Skagit, and U.S. longline.
Manufacturers that specialize in spey equipment including Sage, Loomis, Hardy, CND, Loop, Meiser, Anderson Custom Rods, Rio, Airflo and Scientific Anglers will have their equipment available for all to try.
The casting competition has been recognized as the U.S. Open of spey casting and will feature the best from around the world in a contest designed to simulate actual fishing conditions.
There will be a 2007 Spey O Rama. All of this year's participants were very positive that they wanted another event next year. Dates are not yet decided, but will probably be a bit earlier in order not to interfere with spring fishing seasons for some of the particpants.
