Thinking about heading out west to hit this one. Found unbelieveable Airline tickets for $200 round trip from Indy. Anybody else thinking about flying in or driving from the OP or points further south ? If so, shoot me a PM and let's talk about giving an old man a ride and splitting the cost from Seattle.
Myself and a few friends made the trek across the Northern border to this event. I must say the hospitality was second to none. Many great demo both on the water and in the tying area. The treat of event was the slide shows that went on after the wonderful supper meal.
I have just got into spey fishing and to see and here the history first hand was worth the trip. Dec Hogan put on a great show.
Thanks again Kaufman's and all the reps and presenters for the hospitality
I will 2nd all that.It was lots of fun with lots of good people with which to visit. Dec Hogan had a great nostalgic slide show and commentary.Dec,I had no memory of that Deschutes buck having a double stripe! After seeing those early pictures of Ed W ,I am not surprised he was searched on many occasions crossing the Canadian border! That hoody look is a great upgrade from that
Anyone interested in customizing line and tips should get Al Buhr's book.He gave a lot of time demonstrating and talking about this subject. Thanks to some discussion and some casting with Charle St. Pierre,I am going to chop 6 ft from my new RIO AFS S1 8/9 line for my Sage Z axis 8129 and will try to make a loop on the end using Al's info. Then I will have the option of using heavier sinktips and bigger flies with a thinner, denser line that will cut through the wind better.
Thanks for the Bat ray Scott O!
It was nice to see Harry L and Marlow there!
I took a few photos but due to heavy rain ,I was limited and unable to do what I wanted. Here are a few.It was cold and wet!!
Photo number one is my Argentina model...George Cook. BTW,we have to get his rap song on film....it is tremendous!
Photos 2,3,4,5....Mike McCune & Scott ODonnel..I have more pictures of them because Scott talked and Mike just kept "easing" out beautiful cast after cast.Mike stands on a rock and then on his knees to simulate the depth of water and how to adjust. These guys are great! They can improve anyone's casting! How do you like that loop in photo #4?? Define "D loop cast" vs "continous motion cast" and you will win admission to Kaufmann's Speydays NW 2010!
Photos 6 & 7...Dec Hogan returns to his skagit roots and his skagit buds.Dec ,you need to have airflo build you a Delta that shows better for photos. Plus the rain started and I messed up on focus...sorry.
Thanks to Kaufmann's,Jerry, all those that presented, the reps and those that came!
Nice to see Andrew Bennett[Alaska West Fishing Lodge] there...that Deneki Outdoors blog is something that should be checked out...good stuff on it!
Due to limit on photos ,I will put last 2 photos on next post.
Thanks Erick for the Kanektok slide show! And here is Declan pre heavy rain .Check out the hands position[push up bottom hand /push down top hand...keep it all centered to your body..your anchor will always be placed in same spot] on that snap T .Great to see you bud! Thanks for coming. Those Salmon river fall photos looked extremely inviting!!
