A Spey clave to end all claves, the best speycasters from Scotland will be in BC this October on the 28th and 29th, they will demonstrate old and new methods and give one to one instruction on the new power style from Scott MacKenxie and the Alexander Grant planet cast from (Speyghillie) Gordon Mcleod from the River Spey, Scotland.

This venue will help learners and those who think they know how.

Contact Speyghillie for more details of the venue.
Gordon is sponcered by Clanrods.com.

You would be a foul to miss this one.

speyclave in BC

Willie surely that would be fowl, anyway there is no point in me going on about spelling, not my best subject.
But as Harry say's there is going to be a speyclave in BC in October, thanks to sponsorship from Harry .
The interest has been great, just got to talk a couple of guy's into the idea, a few guy's are alredy up for it, doing a demo over the weekend then going fishing in BC, i see no problem.
Going to speak to a whiskey company or two, can cover half a dozen in an hours drive.
Will be able to post the details in a couple of weeks, hope to have some great casters in BC, doing demo's over the weekend, and all for free.
Cheers. Gordon.

speyclave in BC

Well if it starts off this funny its got to be good fun, the first two guy's i spoke to where Scott Mackenzie and Gordon Armstrong, both were up for it, thats not a bad start for January , the number one and two in the world for distance, not that this a distance casting thing, both are brilliant casters and would be worth going to see anywhere .
Hopefully all the guy's will bring along some new rods , lines that they are working on now, lots of companies i hope.
Most of all i hope it will be good fun, and a great weekend.
Gordon.

Why not do the clave up north in Steelhead country. Ok so I am being selfish as that is the way I could attend. Lots of good casting water and an eclectic group of anglers in the area at the time.

speyclave in BC

Hi Brian,
I will be over next month , sort out a venue, some of the guy's can only come over for a week, so dont want to be spending to much time driving, when we could be fishing after the clave.
Just leave your guests fishing for the weekend, come to the clave, have a few beers, and you will get to try out some new toys never seen before and see some great demo's, hope to have a whole range of rods and lines from all over, got some great prizes as well.
Hope to make it a fun event, even got a couple of Spey guy's that will be teaching the basics both days, all day, so if your just getting into the mad thing, they will help people have a go and give free advice.
Thats the thing, a fun weekend with lots of new Spey toys, in BC, and some great Speycasters, prizes...ect. Thanks to Harry at clan rods, its got to happen.
Cheers Gordon (speyghillie).

Harry, as you may be aware, the Skeena and it's various tribs are a good 12hours+ drive from Vancouver. In my case I won't be able to leave for the weekend. It's not about me I was just thinking that if your guys wanted to do some fishing this way they would have the best Steelhead fishing right there. If the clave was held on the Bulkley or Skeena you would have tose rivers to fish as well as the Morice, Kispiox, Babine, Copper and Kalum fairly close by. This would be your best option from a fishing standpoint in October. If the clave is held in the Fraser Valley near Vancouver the best speyfishing will be up toward Whistler on the lower Squamish(Coho and Chums) and on the Thompson. The Thompson of course would be a greaty place for you to fish however there is no guarantee that it will be open. Sorry for trying to highjack your event but I am just thinking of what will give you the best BC fishing experience in October.

speyclave in BC

Hi Brian,
The most likely area will be the Fraser valley for a number of different reasons, hope to sort that out when i'm over next month, i've been over in BC eight times in the last two years, the last trip was for 6 weeks, went fishing with a buddy from Vernon, went fishing everywhere, even managed two weeks on the Island.i Will be going to a show in Abbotsford and meeting some guy's in Chilliwack, so then i will have a better idea for a venue.
Got a Magazine wanting to cover the Speyclave, so things are moving along.
Going to get some really good french wine , see if i can talk Francois into coming along, hope to fish the big T, if its open.
Cheers Gordon.

Gordon also another issue to be aware of is that is the same dates as rather large spey event in the Seattle area at River Run Anglers. This more than likely is going to bring your attendance down. I know most manufactures will be at Aarons thing.

Do not want to rain on your parade but the majority of casters in the NW are based in the states and with 2 events on the same day the timing is going to be difficult for folks. You guys should consider the 3 hour drive to Seattle as I would hate to see no one at your clave due to the scheduling conflict.

I know the whole speypages team has a commitment to Aarons event so none of us could attend even though half of the team lives in BC.

Speygillie:

I would second Whistler's idea of a more northern speyclave on the Skeena system. This IS where the greatest concentration of Spey folk visiting or living in B.C. will be at this time. It also offers the best opportunity for fishing success before or after the venue. As Sean has stated many others will be attending Aarons event, especially those who are not at the Skeena and live around Seattle or in the Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley.

Please rethink your dates and location to ensure that you get the turnout that this speyclave deserves.

Gordon, I support the notion of Aaron's Clave. Last year was its first year and the turn-out was great, it would be a shame to take away from this great event. Plus it was a great time and you would really enjoy it - there is even a casting competition for Scott and Gordon to win:lildevl: . It is actually less than 3 hours from Vancouver - I do it all the time.

E-mail me at [email protected] (also check your PMs) and we can work out some of the details.

Should you decide on BC, I recommend the area served by Vancouver airport, for those coming from the states. Getting to Vancouver from anywhere in the US is simple; going north to Smithers quadruples the time and difficulty, and doubles the expense.

Speyclave in BC

Hi Guy's ,
when i looked at having a speyclave in BC, i noticed that there was none on that date, Speyfair was 21-23 Oct 2005, that was one of the reasons i thought of 28th and 29th, there was nothing on that weekend last year.
I sure don't want to take anything away from Aaron's speyfair, will speak to the guy's see what they think, nobody change the dates til i get back.

Speyclave in BC

Hi Everybody,
Back again, i have spoken to the people who were sponsoring the speyclave in BC and we have decided to move the speyclave to another date, i have spoken to the guy's and they are still up for it and most importantly the sponsors still want it to go ahead, they will help with the cost of a couple of the guy's flights ,accomodation ect.
This is the only way i can finance the clave, and make it happen, but in fairness to Aaron i have decided to have the speyclave on the weekend of the 22nd-23rd Oct, this way it will not clash with any other.
I am limited to this date because Scott and Gordon Armstrong, are working on the Ness til the 15th of Oct, and these are two of the guy's i would like to have most at the clave, and a couple of the guy's from the River Spey, are on holiday til the 12th Oct.
So there you have it, Oct the 22nd- 23rd.
I will post details of who's going to be there and doing what, as soon as i can.
Cheers Gordon (speyghillie)

Sounds very interesting.

I will be in BC a few weeks earlier, but guess I have to try to find time for this event in my plans for my PNW trip.
