I think you are right, Maybe should have started a bit further back for this pattern. would also like to see the tail a bit lower set. I think Jin ties this pattern too!

Chase very slick, with all the snow and cold we've had lately I'm tempted to go practice casting in the snow, maybe there's enough drag to load the rod. Anything to break this cabin fever. Had the pleasure of changing a flat the other day, I think it had warmed up to minus 15 so I went for it.

here's my bastardized beginner version, I thought it looked nice with the eye included

The first one looks like a variation of Kelson's ETHEL, which used a dark blue floss front body. Even though I think snow flies look best tied full length on long-shanked hooks, this one is killer.
