Slight variant as the larger hook (Blue Heron #3) wont accommodate Calf tail, so i used Silver fox.

Opted to leave off the JC too, and I went for the dubbed angora goat body.

Starting to tie quite a few classic steelhead flies, so if anyone can recommend a book with a ton of patterns, I'd be very grateful!

Just ordered a new 1976 copy for $15....thanks.
A great read doesn't even come close to doing this book justice. The patterns and technical fishing information aside, there is an abundance regarding the history and understanding of Steelhead. You'll enjoy this one a lot Eunan.

Eunan,
Here's a picture of a few texts from my library at home that I reach for if looking for steelhead inspiration. The bottom two in the pic are pretty much all steelhead flies (plates of flies with dressings listed) and the top two have a combination of text and plates of flies for salmon and steelhead. Hope this helps, let me know if you want anymore info on any of them.

Nice Skykomish Sunrise. Looking good on that hook also. The book is excellent. Awesome score for the price!!! As a reference I've read it cover-to-cover several times over by now. H.K Helvie's Fly Tying Guide also.

Another vote for Combs book.

Combs' book is all you need! Everything else is gravy....nice, but gravy to Combs' meaty offering.
'Old' it may be but a total history lesson on the original 'Mover's and Shaker's' of PNW Steelhead fishing. Good part is I got to know the majority of the folks on a first name basis.
