Skagit on 12'-6" TFO

Any body using a skagit on a 12'-6", 5/6 weight TFO rod? If so what weight? Did you try different weight lines? How was the performance? With scandi lines different manufacturers line feel different when casting and can make a difference with the performance as you are now playing with a longer line, but since the skagit is so short does it make a difference what manufacturer is used?

Hi Iboone
I have been using a 370 scandi versatip on it and it works very well. I tried a 420 scandi and it lost performance right now. The rod felt very sluggish after using the 370 scandi. I haven't tried a skagit on it yet but have a 420 grain coming to try on it. I figured 50 grains over the scandi should do it. Even that might be too much as the rod is pretty light in hand. At least to me it is light in hand. We'll see. I hope sinktip is right and the 420 does the job.

Well guys --I ended up with a 390 grain skagit. It cast very well, Got to admit it is definity different to cast than a 370 scandi but I found no problem switching from one to the other. Casting distance was about the same even with a large fly. Thanks for all the help.
