I made one myself a few years ago from Harley Davidson oil pump gears and some brass scrap. Thought I had a photo but couldn't find it.

You can do the twisting thing with some nails and a handmade weight with a hook on the end. The "twisting engine" is nice though...mine has a great patina after 2 years of spinning gut strands! CJ

I doubt it comes out as good but I've just used forceps and a heavy dubbing twisted, the only real problem I've found with that is getting it to twist evenly throughout. I'm satisfied with it though... All that said I've bought gut a couple times but until I'm doing stuff for the wall (decades away from that) I just can't see spending the money on, there are some great subs out there. Check aofeathers, his looks great!
