I spent a long time wanting a Simms Extream jackets, the bronze coloured one. Well I finally got it as a Christmas gift and I was a happy camper that morning. Now after owning if for a year, it’s very apparent the down is totally void in many places as it bunched up in other parts in the baffles. This has left me a bit sour and I doubt I’d buy another Simms jacket again. I didn’t try to contact Simms regarding the issue, maybe I should have but I didn’t really feel like pleading. I’m confident, I’m not the only one who has experienced this with this jacket. On the other hand, I own a pair of Simms G3 waders and couldn’t be happier as they have lasted me many years now and I use the heck out of them all year long.

Simms is one of the companies that you'd expect to make things right if you had a legitimate issue. Not sure about the new ownership, but they've been ok to me in the past. They did kick my wife off their promo site for letting me use her pro deal, though 😆

I think it's Vista Outdoors people don't trust.

I had a bad experience with Stren 6 lb mono on a spinning reel in the 1970s. It was supple and a mysterious clear blue color, but way too fragile, I lost a couple Rooster tails and a jointed Rapala all in one day. That’s big bucks for a 10 yo. Swore it off. But, they say time heals all wounds. When I decided to experiment in 2016 and compare different conventional 30 and 40 lb monos for running lines, I gave Stren another try. I was amazed, great stuff. They really upped their game.

We're chatting about brands (i.e. gear), but I got seriously "Burned" by an outfitter last year. Left a very bitter taste in my mouth and I certainly will not be going back. I'm sure I'm not alone in that boat...

I totally agree, I would have expected Simms to do things right as well. Here’s a picture of my jacket.

I don't care who owns them, but as of now I love Redington rods and also their waders. They replaced the second section (from bottom) handle of a 7-wgt spey rod I broke in BC, and sent me the new tip section of a 6-wgt switch rod that, bozo that I am, I lost while bushwhacking in the dark. If there was a fee for either it was nominal. Granted I don't fish as much as I'd like (who does?) but I've worn a pair of Rediington's top-of-the-line waders (roughly half the price of a, ahem, premium brand) with nary a pinhole for four years. But then I'm a guy who would never buy an Apple product.

I bought a pair of Redington waders a few years ago and had them leak right out of the box. Took them back to the fly shop, got my money back, so that was OK. When I got home I wrote to Redington, explained that leaky waders in northern BC in October is more than just an inconvenience. I wasn't looking for any compensation, just hoping for a "whoops, sorry about that", I guess. Heard nothing. I wasn't impressed and while I won't say I'll never buy anything from them ever again, they're not my first choice now. Or my second.

I have one sage rod the HD Trout Spey in a 1 wt that im willing to give a chance to this year but I bought an echo 2# trout spey just in case lol. I still have a few sage spey reels which I am dying to replace. May very well give Hardy more credit and may order something from them in trout spey size. I also will more than likely be purging my OPST Lazr line which really hasnt lived up to the hype and use the SA shooting flat mono or the stuff from Salmologic which is fantatistc.
