I am looking for any input on line recommendations for my Scott L2S 1408. I primarily use my echo Dec 13' 7wt all year but would like to try out a longer rod and further advance my spey casting skills. Can you throw Skagits well with this longer rod? I have cast skagits scandi and afs lines on the echo rod. I dig casting all of them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Fish on!

The LS2 are nice rods. I owned a couple in the series and yes - they will cast heads. I recommend moving on to a speyline with a long back taper 7/8 weight. Rio PowerSpey and UniSpey for example. Both have a 10 foot back taper that can be cast with the full head beyond the tip-top or pulled into the guides if the caster isn't comfortable with the length, casting in wind-gusts or in tight spots where slightly shorter head would be easier. A multi-tip line would be best - but you can cut and loop both at 20 and 15 feet, respectively. Weigh the cut section to match with a set of 15'DC tips(~80grains). Maybe an intermediate and a type 6?

Airflo Delta 7/8

I am using an Airflo Delta 7/8 short, 53' at 570 gn. with pretty good success, although it is not a rod that I put a lot of time with.

I have a ton of time with the LS2 1408. I have all of the rods in that series...awesome rods!

For the 1408 the Airflo Delta 8/9 (55' head) and Delta Long 8/9 (65' head) are great matches. I really like the old Rio Windcutter in 9/10/11. The old Airflo NW Skagit 8/9 is absolutely effortless to cast. Right now I'm running a CND GPS 8/9 on mine.

I personally never cared for the Airflo tactical steelhead or any of the Scandi lines on the LS2 rods. I'm sure others will think differently.

I did try my friend's Airflo Ultra Spey 8/9 on earlier this spring...that was pretty sweet but man that is a pricey set up!!!

Good luck in your search,
Christian

A good friend of mine has that same rod. we lined it up with my Nextcast WA 55 7/8. kept the floating section on and looped a poly leader off the end...
oh boy did that combo ever jack. the power and turnover was so smooth.

He was a long time Airflo Delta user and I think this rod/line combo has changed him.
