The steelhead were hammering this Black/green butt spey fly I had tied on an A.J. #1.5 blind eye hook. I was able to bring two 25" fish to the beach and missed 3 other grabs. Water temperature was 54 degrees. I used a 3ft. piece of T-11 and 6ft. tippet of 12lb. test Maxima ultragreen.

Beauties both the fish & fly! I do pretty well with a very similar tie but with a single flat wing above. This year I used the same fly but with white wings Dee style and caught the bows on that. just saying maybe put a few with white wings in for the off day.

Nice post,

Has the "circus" of salmon season slowed down? I've been thinking of coming up for a few days- just hate the crowds.
What little remains of this years' salmon run appears to be fading fast and hopefully the "clowns & joker fishermen" will be leaving with it.

Usually after Columbus Day things quiet down a little but then the center pinners start to show up :saeek:

Ah, yes, the center-pinners! A few I've met on the river seemed like pretty good fellows! If we could only teach them to rotate through a stretch of good water!! Then again, they don't have to.

Well, at least they're not snagging!!!

Hopefully see you out there,

-Bill
