Searched all the old threads here and am still looking for more intel on this rod I scooped.

It's a caramel colored Graphite IIIe 9140.

Figured the power/length combo would make for a killer Clearwater mid-belly rod, and likely a Skagit line chucking machine.

Anyone have any info they can share?

I owned and sold this rod. For my tastes, which are pretty tolerant of soft / moderate rods, a rod of this length benefits from being just a bit more snappy. It is slightly better than the graphite III version, by virtue of a slightly stiffer butt, but still kinda mushy (would be better if the graphite recovery was quicker / cleaner). ymmv

I have one, still use it, mostly T&G casting stuff. Only complaint is it takes a lot of reel weight (like 17oz or so) to balance in-hand on the swing, if that matters to you, or just choke up. I use a Speyco reel with the brass face. Tough graphite, it's been banged around a wee bit and still going.

I just picked up both a 9140 IIIe and a 9141 IV at my local tackle swap. I haven’t had a chance to cast the 9140 IIIe yet, but from what I’ve read it’s more of an 8wt. Ive really liked casting the 9141 so far and it seems to like 9/10wt lines. I’ll let you know how the IIIe goes once I get it out.

I don’t remember exactly, I bought it used for a good price, but owned it only briefly. I remember it felt sluggish lined as a 9 wt, so I tried 8 wt stuff, just couldn’t get it to really pop (compared to my old Burkie 8139-3) and sold it. It is not a bad rod, quite smooth, just no wow factor on line speed. At the time I’m sure that I would have tried all 7-8-9 wt versions of Airflo Delta and SA Shortheads (55’), Rio Midspeys, and early-gen Rio and Airflo skagit heads.

I have an old IV 7wt. Best guidance I got was asking Sage technical. The person told me exactly what line to buy for the rod. Works perfectly.
