This is the 2-hander I got for both of my teen sons when they wanted to start using 2-handers. I got the younger one (he started spey casting at age 12) a Windcutter 7/8/9 and I got the older one (he is 4 years older than his brother and he started spey casting at age 14) a MidSpey 7/8 because he was stronger and puts a fair amount of energy into a cast. Both lines worked very well for them.
I'd say any 7/8 short-or mid-belly from RIO, SA, Airflow would work just fine for a beginner with this rod.
