Catalog diagram makes the short head look about 50' long, with about 15' front taper, and the belly looks level. Can anyone add details, or more important, head grain weights for the different sizes? The key to purchasing decisions is always in the details, so it would help to be able to differentiate these from the short head spey lines from Airflo and Rio. Can anyone who has used them comment on how they function?

Carl,
8/9 that I have has a different taper.
The running line is .040
Back belly is .088 for 17ft.
Then it tapers down to .084 for 6ft.
Then tapers slow taper to the tip!
Great Line!
I cut off the last 13ft. for sink tip ( ED W. style)
Watching the line at Kaufmann's Spey Days 2004 I was sold!
I'm a sucker for new things in SPEY FISHING!:hehe:

Ahhh that is why the 8/9 works so well on the skagit. I was a little skeptical when I heard the reviews of the 8/9 being perfect on the skagit and was wondering what the grain weight was.

650 should be about right. These weights look about the same as the rio midspey in a line that is 13' shorter.

Thanks for sharing the specs. I guess I need to head over to kmans and pick up an 8/9. That will make 4 lines for the my CND skagit:rolleyes:

Brian,
Do you have any recommendations on line size for
a green blank sage 9140. Where can I find more info
on Ed W. type tip system? I saw it at the Kaufmans clave
and was very impressed.

The 8/9 Short Spey should be a perfect match for that rod!

If you get a chance, stop by the Bellevue Kmann's as I have one spooled up...I can walk you down to the pond to give it a try on your rod.

Brian is right folks. The 8/9 goes like a rocket on the CND skagit. I cut mine at 15' and fished it all day and wish I still was!
