Anyone use this line system and what are your thoughts? I've recently picked up an ACR 12'3" 6wt and the recommendation from Gary was a 350-400gr 30' scandi. Spoke with Rio today and this sounds like it may be a very good choice that will allow surface and sub surface presentations for dries on up to reasonably weighted streamers. The 370 would fall right in line with the rec's from Gary. Appreciate any insight. Intended use is swinging for browns here in MT with a bit larger flies on a bit larger water or when dealing with wind. Have an 11'9" 4wt ACR for smaller stuff.

I have the full set of RIO Scandi Short lines, great design for intended application.

Mainly I use the 10ft and 15ft floating tips for small flies and the intermediate 10ft tips for heavy streamers.

Excellent on 4wt to 6wt rods,,, I have not fished the 7, 8 & 9wt lines to date.

Last fall we did a comparison test with all the popular Scandi lines on our 5wt trout spey rods,,, the RIO Scandi Short with 10ft floating tip was one of the favorites.

Regards,
FK

I have the 7wt. I find when i am fishing the dry tip I wish that I got the 8wt. I am using this on on the sage tcx 7126 ("deatherstar"), so it may be more of the rod than the line. I really like the line though and I plan on buying it again. I was skeptical at first as I fish this short spey rod on a big river, however, it truly does let you to cast a "long line".

I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have the number six and it's gotten a lot of use over the past year. Decent turnover capacity easy casting / fishing multi-tip head. Added the Intermediate body last fall which turned out to be a REALLY good move for what's done with this kit. Would be surprised if you didn't like it.

Best of luck

Fly flicker, your correct the TCX is a solid 7/8, no doubt. You must have good solid cast skills for a 425gr head on that rod.

I use a Rio Skandi Short Versi Tip on a tcx 7wt switch. It's more of a skagit than a true Scandi. The front 10' floating tip is tapered. Very aggressive taper. It's nice for 10' sink tips. It's not all that delicate for a dry line. I got a 30' Scandi line from Gary for my 12' 7wt ACR. Luv the ACR for dry line work.

Appreciate the comments to this point. Still debating on best way to go and am considering calling Mr. Godshall on Monday. ACR thought he might have the numbers on this rod so will see how that goes. I've been trying to justify just picking up something locally to be able to get the rod in hand for some fun. May be worth the wait to try to get a bit more detail. Scandi / Skagit is a learning curve for me as delta's and nextcast FF's have been my steelhead lines. Trout with the spey is an intriguing learning curve for me.

That will skate caddis, cranefly and moths niceley and throw stone dries and chubbies. Gotta use a long leader on the float tip for spring creek suppleness. Mono runner for streamers is fun, zinnng!

I like the Rio Scandi short versitip system very much. Its a very nice system. I'm a little curious as to why Gary didnt recomend a Skandit system by SPG since he provides lines for Gary's rods which are very similar to Rios SSVT sytstem. Cant go wrong either way. I have both.

Gary recommended a grain window and said he preferred a 30' scandi on it. He did advise me to touch base with Steve. The 11'9" 4wt mentioned above is the identical rod to the 6wt (blank design & concept) and that rod happens to be with Gary for a spare tip and while there Steve will build a line in for it. I'd prefer not to have to send a rod over purely for a line build as it's another $50 bill. Hoping Steve has the records on that rod. Will know Monday. The rod should show up today sometime as I just recently purchased it.
