I'm in the process of building a couple spey rods and am looking for recommendations for reel seats. Does anyone have an opinion as to the quality of reel seats made by Pacific Bay? As to size what would one recommend? I've seen some with an inside diameter of .62" and others at .747". Could either be used? Any suggestions recommendations would be most helpful. Thanks.

Last year I built a spey rod using a Landmark spey/salmon reel seat. This comes in black or clear (polished aluminum) and your choice of a rosewood or mesquite insert, for the shockingly low price of $19.95. You'll find it on page 3.3 of this year's Bob Marriott's Flyfishing Store mega-catalog. It's rather heavy, but nicely machined. As I remember, the i.d. was something over .700, and you can ream the wood insert out if needed.

Measure the butt diameter of your rod and go from there. Fuji makes inexpensive graphite, Pac Bay does some good all metal and Struble, Bellinger, top ends.
