Can someone tell me what size of switch rod a Hardy Marquis Salmon One fly reel would be right for. I think its to way heavy for my 11 ft. 4/5 wt. switch rod. I may sell it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The reels I have besides the Hardy Marquis Salmon one are a Hardy SA System 9, and a Hardy SA System 8.

I use a tibor back country wide on my 4/5wt switch, 150yds of 30lb backing (just to fill the reel properly) and a 325gr skagit max short head with verivas mono shooting line in 35lb, perfect fit and balance, tough as nails reel with as much drag as you would ever need on that size rod, bonus, its sort of a half old school/half new school looking reel.

David , that SA system 9 should work for your 4/5 switch. I have a marquis #10 that is the same size as a system 9 and I fish it on a 12'1 4 wt troutspey.

Yeah that system 9 should fit the bill perfectly...
