It depends entirely on the belly length spey line you are going to use with it. I put 175 yards of 30# dacron on my AS 11/12 with an 8/9 GrandSpey long belly. I don't know if that helps or not; but it should give you some idea of what it will hold. I use my AS 13/14 reels with the 9/10 and 10/11 GrandSpey lines.
FT's dead on with his answer; I've several of these reels (love them, just DON'T over oil same!!!) and it varies from about 125 yards to 150 with a given line. Longer the head (think XLT) the less you can pack on.
Although it's a pain in the fanny you could do a reverse job and put the line (tip first) on the reel, wind it on, add as much backing as you can, then strip it all off and reverse same.:saeek:
