I guess its not that red, but that's the color i had in my head all last night. so i rushed home after work ready to tie:

I found a pair of hackles in the yard that have a really dark red and black color to them. Looked like great wings so i built a fly around them. I choose to use the smallest blue heron hook yet keep the profile small for the hook's size. I don't think i nailed the aesthetic proportions but I like it enough overall. and it swings really nicely, i got out for a quick hour this evening before dinner. it nabbed 2 trout and one decent grab. really looked great in the water. i love the way hackle wings move.

It's a striking pattern. I like how you dressed it well forward on the shank and the long tail especially. A lot of us would like to see one smaller size of this hook. This here is the way to go until then if ever. Placing an order with Dave McNeese on the phone when the subject came-up - this is exactly how he dresses it for fishing the Rouge and N.Ump.

Thanks. Sometimes design is more an aesthetic thing for me, but on this fly it was all about fishability. This thing is tied to catch a fish. Interesting to hear how Dave dresses this hook. perhaps i will have to dig up some images of flies he has tied on this hook and see. Did he mention any ability to make this hook smaller?

He didn't mention a smaller size, only of dressing the No. 3 in low-water fashion. He did talk of the trouble with the manufacturer arriving at the shape exactly as he wanted for these hooks and in each of the three sizes that we have now. So...

For a smaller hook other than to clip this one, and I'm sure you're aware of, the T10-3H and 6H are available in three smaller sizes.
